The outdoor scene where hunters, emergency crew and soldiers are shooting at zombies was done through local volunteers. Several local hunters arrived on-scene with their own weapons, the local National Guard division showed up in full gear, and local emergency crew (police, fire, and ambulance) were present, all voluntarily.
•   Gaylen Ross refused to scream during the film. She felt that Fran was a strong female character, and if she screamed, the strength would be lost. She told this to Romero once, when he told her to scream, he never asked her again.
"Cannibalism in the true sense of the word implies an interspecies activity. These creatures cannot be considered human. They prey on humans. They do not prey on each other, that's the difference."

George A. Romero

Allegedly, Mr. Romero appears up to 4 separate times in DOTD. Below are screenshots of 2 cameo
appearances. Obviously, the first is of Mr. Romero playing the Director at the TV station. Rumor has it,
that's his hand firing the gun. There's also a rumor that he plays one of the "mall walkers."
Apparently, you can recognize him by his proclivity for flannel. And we know he plays the
"santa claus" biker; he's briefly visible when the bikers first raid the mall.
Christine Forrest Romero & Family
Christine (George's wife) plays the Director's Assistant at the TV Station. She sits right next to George
during the scene. Both of Christine's parents make cameo appearances as zombies in the film,
and her brother also appears as the man who shakes Fran awake during the opening scene.

Tom Savini
Mr. Savini appears in two cameo roles. The first is, of course, as the biker "Blades."
He appears a second time as the zombie Roger hits while driving the truck. Pay close attention to the
The last screen capture. The trampoline he uses to "bounce" off the truck with is clearly visible.
